Chemical sunscreen ingredients are killing the reefs of Hawaii. Even if you're not swimming in the ocean, just taking a shower and having these sunscreen chemicals enter the groundwater and directly from snorkelers, surfers, and swimmers allows these dangerous chemicals to find delicate reefs offshore. It is important to avoid sunscreens that contain Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Homosalate, and a series of other dangerous chemicals listed on Earth Watch Group's website EWG.org.
As a team that cares greatly for the Ocean, we wanted to try to help protect both the Ocean and ourselves. We chose a formula that depends heavily on one of the safest known sunscreen agents Zinc Oxide. Combined with Hawaiian Coffeeberry, Organic Jojoba, and Organic essential oils it's unlike anything else you have tried!
Zinc oxide is a physical sun blocking agent that work primarily by reflecting/scattering ultraviolet light. It has a broad range of effectiveness, covering UVB *cause of sunburn (290-320 nm) as well as both short (320-340 nm) UVA2 and long (340-400 nm) UVA1.
The non-nano zinc oxide we use in our sunscreen also blocks visible light up to wavelengths 700 nm. As a single ingredient, zinc oxide is the safest and broadest range sunscreen on the market which is why we chose it for you and your family. However; like with most sunscreens, please make sure to reapply at least once every hour or after swimming.
